Dendrobium tipo nobile
Los Dendrobiums tipo nobile, son muy fáciles de cultivar en un clima intermedio (templado) como el de mi lugar de cultivo, en Tepoztlan. Son un elección fácil para este tipo de condiciones.
Su cultivo incluye, luz muy intensa, en algunas ocasiones, cómo invierno y principios de primavera, puede ser incluso, sol directo.
El riego y fertilización, deben ser muy concentrados en su periodo de crecimiento, que corresponde a los meses de Marzo a Octubre. Del mes de Noviembre a Febrero estos dos factores se suspenden para inducir la floración, recordando que la ausencia de Nitrógeno, generalmente es la señal que muchas plantas esperan para florecer.

To grow them successfully, you need very intense light, in some cases, like in winter and early spring, it can be even, direct sunlight.

El medio es uno que debe drenar muy bien pero que además, retenga humedad. En mi experiencia, la mitad inferior de la maceta rellena con tepojal grueso y la mitad superior con sphagnum, alcanzan estos requerimientos.
El tipo de maceta que me gusta usar, es de plastico. El tamaño, es el necesario para que las bola de raíces de la planta quepan apretadas y no le sobre mucho espacio.
Estas plantas muchas veces florecen en las cañas (seudobulbos) sin hojas y se llenan de flores, por lo que son un espectáculo que vale la pena observar.
The medium is one that should drain very well but also retain some moisture. In my experience, the lower half of the pot filled with coarse tepojal* and the upper half with sphagnum, meet these requirements.
The type of pot that I like, is plastic. The size, only the necessary for the root ball of the plant to fit tight, NEVER overpot them.
These plants often shed their leaves and fill the canes (pseudobulbs) with blooms of outstanding colors, so they are a sight worth observing.
*tepojal.- white volcanic rock (pyroclastic) very common in Central Mexico.
