English version
Laelia anceps subsp dawsonii November Starlight 'Catalina' MP/AMO. This species is endemic to the Sierra Madre del Sur. In the wild it is now only found in small groups in the south of the state of Oaxaca. It has been cultivated for a long time in small villages throughout this state and Jalisco. One of the various orchids emblematic of Mexico, Laelia anceps dawsonii is known by its white flowers, with or without a pink mark in the lip of the plants, and a throat with burgundy stripes. These flowers are exquisite and consequently have drawn the attention of collectors from all parts of the world.
The flower in the photo, is from my collection, and is part of a program of hybridization for the improvement of the species, begun by Vivero Rio Verde (Sandro Cusi), being continued by various members of the Association Mexicana de Orquideología, myself included.
